Why we built Bisque.

Other platforms are rushing to sell "surveys at the click of a button." That's the wrong approach. We believe in being thoughtful, not thoughtless.

The Problem

Existing platforms are failing us.

If you've followed me on TikTok, you've seen my running gag: making over people's terrible surveys. Every. Single. Day. I see more bad questions—and it's getting worse.

But here's the thing: it's not their fault. The tools we have set people up to fail.

Too clunky and costly for anyone without a full-time research department.

Built for speed and ease but missing the basics of good survey design.

So what happens? People either overspend on tools they can't fully use, or they settle for platforms that don't help them ask better questions. Either way, they all end up with bad data. And bad data = bad decisions.

The Spark

The moment Bisque became real.

Earlier this year, I was on a call with a client. We had just finalized their survey questions, and it was time for the conversation I dread most: What platform are we going to use?

It's always a tough decision. Do we spend the money on something like Qualtrics—powerful yet clunky and wildly expensive? Or do we reach for Google Forms or Airtable because they're accessible, even if they lack the features we need?

Going with the cheaper option means a more frustrating experience for survey takers and less quality data. Going with the expensive one? You need money—and patience. I hate that tradeoff.

💭🌟I laughed and said (kind of seriously): "It's my dream to just build my own survey platform so I never have to have this conversation again."

A few weeks later, I was talking to a close friend and asked, "But like, should I just build it? Could I?" It felt overwhelming. But I had so many ideas. I knew exactly what I wanted it to look like and the must-have features.

I started talking it through with my trusty advisor, ChatGPT, who quickly assured me, I could definitely pull it off... even with zero technical skills. (Love a good hype man).

The Build

What kind of person decides to take on the titans of the industry and build their own survey platform?

A research expert trusted by The Gates Foundation, Richard Branson, and thousands of learners.

👋 Hi, I'm Dr. Kirsten Lee Hill. After over a decade of feeling frustrated with the survey industry, I decided to take matters into my own hands and build Bisque. Not just for me, but for everyone who's ever been let down by platforms that overcharge or can't deliver on their promises.

Every aspect of Bisque is designed to make surveying a more delightful experience—for you and for your survey takers—while gently guiding you toward best practices that lead to better data.
